Hi,
I'm rather new to group, but the discussion about empirical studies of
'memes' in a cultural context seems to be crucial point if we are going to
derive useful knowledge from this approach. I agree, in principle, with Dawkins in the notion of memes, and particularly with Dennet in his emphasize on the selection algorithm itself being universal.

The main problem would then be to find operationalized concepts of memes and investigate those in relation to replication mechanisms, so that we can more reliabily predict events in the world, than we would otherwise have done without these concepts.

Do anyone have any good ideas on how to do that?

Otto
