I take you seriously. :-)

Another thing to consider is that few people are content to be adored on a small stage. We readily discount the opinion of friends, family, and confidants...making the statement "nobody takes me seriously" a lot like the common american tendency to look into a full refrigeratior and then say "aw geee, there's nothing to eat".

Another way of saying that is: who do you want to pay attention to you, and how hard are you willing to work to earn it? Attention is, after all, the most valuable asset of any human mind.
