No answer? Just to show that I wasn't being facetious when I asked, here's a couple possibilities:

  1. The map *is* the treasure. Millions of people (sometimes known as scientists) make this there life's work and derive a great deal of personal satisfaction and enjoyment from the endeavor.
  2. A good map is a very useful tool in finding any given treasure. I'll even go so far as to speculate that is it useful significantly more often than not.
