I was jsut thinking about something. I have started a new job in sales. I have been reading alot about persuasion and an idea occured to me. Persuasion is simply the injection of a new meme into the buyers head.

A lot of the books out there will give techniques for tricking people into buying something. They give these elaborate techniques for "tricking" another person into buying something. That is the attitude that so many people out there have. Most sales people approach sales as a battle. I choose to look at it as a sharing of ideas.

I can also say that with an intelligent buyer, you can't trick them at all. You have to show them exactly how the product you are selling will give them more of what they want. You have to replace their old ideas with new ideas, new memes. These idea need to be resistant to change and reinforced by what you deliver.

The best salesmen create even stronger memes that motivate customers to evangelize how great the product is to their friends. Of course this is how referalls are created. Referrals are delivered a much greater percentage fo the time.

So if the perfect meme is created then everthing else will just naturally fall into place.

I just wanted to share these ideas with the list and find out if anyone else was looking to apply their knowledge to business applications.

Imagine me as your graduate assistant helping you to test out your theories ITRW. How much fun will this be?
