Would be interesting to know how many of these are
Catholic. I assume not many. Life threatening
experiences (or those perceived to be life
threatening... like prison) are known to inspire
hope in a "savior" and also to bring down the ego
of those who have established themselves to be
their own god (or have patterned their lives on
the off-chance that they, too, might someday
aspire to godhood... which is the Catholic
version-- a hierarchy which aspires toward godhood
at whose pinnacle is the Pope... though who claims
to represent godhood only symbolically through the
"pontiff" [an aside]). So I would assume that
prison encourages a Protestant conversion and that
statistics to the contrary are not truly
representing the tendency for christians to go to
prison).

Meaning that... religious people are diproportionately highly
represented.
