I think the excerpt shows that the Dalai Lama has no faith in Buddhism (which is not inconsistent with the tenets of Buddhism as far as I know) so it actually supports Andreas's assertion. What was your interpretation?

I share your belief but I don't hold it dogmatically. What are the advantages of making it sacred?
