Marvin Minsky - The Society of Mind
Minsky is one of the father's of artificial intelligence.
This presents the first rational model of what a mind is and how it works. He begins with neurons and get as far as a good theory of humor. I believe that in the long perspective his work will be remembered as much Freud's in the field of understanding the nature of mind.
