David a good part of the craze is tied to greed. When some people started collecting the things and were willing to pay a increased price for the older ones to make their collection complete they became more desirable to those who had bought them for their children. And so the cycle started. It is collecting for monetary gain. I have talked with several people who have hundreds of the things. And go into great detail as to how much they are worth and how this is a form of investment. I have had similar discussions with people who collect all manner of things.
