You might check around and see if you can find a copy of _The Roots of Renewal in Myth and Madness_. (By Perry, I believe--I don't have it with me here.) I know it's been out of print for quite a while but a university library should have it on the shelves. Although it doesn't talk about memes as such, you might find it intersting.
