Eric,...I guess they are a bit ivory. I am reminded now of "The Lord of the Flies".

Beng somewhat deluded with optimism, I always hope the cooperation-competition modes of any evolutionary sytem will strike a healthy balance.

I was not saying that this is an answer, just hopefully helpful. When I was a teenager, ivory towers such as civil rights and women's rights became a reality.

To the group... I am really enjoying your conversations. I have been thinking about all of the proposals concerning maxims (and the rest of it) and I find it very stimulating. I have been in the woods too long!

Yeah, that'll probably help about as much as outlawing sodomy helps rid the world
of those pesky perverts.

Not to be too sarcastic, but talk about ivory towers. Mockery and intolerance
are a constant companion to human adolescence. I'm not saying that it is a good
thing, but it is a fact, and all the petitions, prayers, pretty pop music and
"understanding" parents in the world won't change that. Is it safe to say memes mixing in violence find happy breeding grounds when hormones rage? Is such a thing good for any meme? Is there a better reason to set the age for the draft at 18?

On the topic of premeditated, one-shot violence, why hasn't this happened at a
major outdoor event like Mardi Gras or New Years in Times Square? I'm talking about non-politically motivated large scale violence...

While everyone was pointing fingers at each other after the Colorado shooting incident, a student in CO circulated a petition calling for more tolerance and less insults and mockery. It is being sent to schools all over the country. I hope it helps. There are so many angles to this.
