I think you meant those nasty inferior religions, but don't forget
government. Governments are laying down moral codes these days, perhaps as
a result of the decline in organized religion.

A few months ago a commission in Canada released its years-long study on
reproductive technologies. I don't remember the specifics, but they were
negative on just about everything -- from existing practices such as
abortion, surrogacy, and sex selection, up to speculated technologies such
as cloning and genetic engineering. Even the (IMHO) innocuous _in vitro_
fertilization was warned against. I gather they were concerned about the
country's moral fabric unravelling.

Can Virus can take a stance on abortion, and make it stick?
