Will it help if I say it's a good book too? I'd put it in the
sub-genre of cyberpunk but it is more ambitious in its scope than
most books of the sub-genre that I've read. It also touches on
some of our discussion. Particularly the AIDS meme discussion as
I recall... It was quite a while ago now that I read it.
