Certainly animals don't need the mental abstraction we use to represent
'the truth'. This isn't the same as 'the truth'.

The above predator, however, rather desperately needs the truth about
where possible food is, or it starves! Thus, while it has no need for
our abstraction of 'the truth', it needs a particular variant of it in a
very extreme fashion.
