Cultural conditioning: the "don't be unequally yoked" idea/submeme has
been amplified, distorting the Word by suppressing the "you are in the
world, but not of it." idea/submeme. This is common to both
ultraconservative Protestants and R. Catholics; it doesn't seem to apply
to liberal Protestants.

The target application of the first idea is *marriage*.
