So... Barring divine or extraterrestrial interference ;), the human
mind must be capable of generating original memes, in the same manner that
life can arise from a fertile environment (biogenesis -> ideogenesis?). If
the analogy holds between life and genes and memes, this would happen very
rarely, over long periods, until a critical mass of memes was present in the
ideosphere, at which point there would be a veritable explosion of
ideodiversity. Check this out:

Appearance of single-celled organisms Appearance of multi-celled organisms,
(genesis of the biosphere) (from there complex plants,
animals, and the current
biodiversity)

3.6 billion years ago TO 700 million years ago

Appearance of homo sapiens Rise of modern civilizations
(genesis of the ideosphere) (from there all literature,
culture, tradition, and the
current ideodiversity)

35,000 or 40,000 years ago TO 5,000 or 6,000 years ago

I think it's a pretty good congruency, but then, it's my hypothesis.
The biggest problem I see is that there might have been communication
between homo sapiens and older strains of man. And, of course, the
point of the "rise of modern civilizations" is extremely open to
debate. What do you guys think?
