No worries.

>Well, even an n-dimensional map of a n-dimensional space is still going to
be a "Level-2" picture. I might rephrase your comment more generally:
Every model compels us to think it explains everything. A common menemonic
(or aphorism) to use when you feel theory-hubris getting out of hand is
"The map is not the geography."

Hmmm.

I think of level-2 as adherence to a single "map" and the inability to
consider or even acknowledge the existence of any other valid map. I think
of level-3 as the use of different (level-2) maps in different situations
according to their usefulness and applicability.

"The map is not the geography" and similar memes are contained on many of
the available level-2 maps, and the level-3 mind uses those maps when
useful. Other times it may use a map that has "Absolute Truth" and
"Objective Reality" as the twin cities, if that proves useful. Some of the
maps divide minds into 3 levels, others do not.

I think of the n-dimensional map, not as one of many maps, but rather the
Atlas of all Maps. Some people go through life looking at one page in the
atlas. Others, in particular the level-3 folk, spend time flipping through
the pages. But all the maps that the level-3 person uses are contained in
the Atlas.

The level-4 mind tries to transcend the Atlas and perceive the terrain
itself. Always trying and never succeeding.

>"The tandem Corey-Kiwitakowski/Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction..."

I'd like to drop this in conversation some day. Or better yet use it as an
all purpose intimidation tool, as in:

You don't really believe X do you?! That was discredited years ago in the
famous tandem Corey-Kiwitakowski/Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons experiments. :-)

Cheers,

Deron
