So in fact tobacco companies would exist? Surely by their very
existance they propagate memes. Think about it. There are these
companies that don't advertise their product. Wouldn't that be the
ultimate invitation to be extra-inquisitive, and be just as a successful
meme as if they advertise.

You're giving human kind an awfully large amount of credit for
intelligence. If the human race were really that clever, then we'd have
stopped killing ourselves off years ago.
