I think consistency is closely related to stability, which is
fundamental not only for evolution, but also the physical
universe in general terms. In fact (DMcF might
recognise this), it is due entirely to the stability of certain
configurations that there are any levels of description/
explanation above the very lowest (whatever that might
be: QM, superstrings, etc.).
