Something very similar, but not quite identical, occurred
to me. It looks, at first glance at least, like fundamentalist
religious memes use r-type strategies, and liberal ones,
K-type strategies. On the other hand, the priest-layperson
dimension and the liberal-fundamentalist one are probably
not orthogonal. The "insiders" are privy to the "esoteric"
meaning, which is the symbolic one, while only outsiders
are satisfied with literalism.
