List,

I consider it very brave (on this list) to actually put the definition of
"meme" into one's own words. Seems to teeter too close to blasphemy and to
go against the established gurus of memedom for one to be so forward--as
evidenced by the strong reaction to my own attempts to define the word...the
*gall* of taking an established definition and placing one's own
interpretation upon it...What of the status quo?...What of the academic
disfavor should Brodie or "What's-His-Name" (the one who coined the word
"meme") be elected "Meme God" and fail to name "fallawake" et. al. as
official mouthpieces?

Seriously, I think we should all have a good enough understanding of "meme"
to put the concept into our own words. I suggest that everyone have a shot
at defining the word to their own satisfaction. Seems a good starting place
for whatever might follow.

(Academics are excused from participating, as we all know they would prefer
to throw some one else's definition around...makes them feel superior and a
part of the "in" crowd, I would guess)
