Sound's like Robin is stuck in the "good" parent role. Just because an
adult is adapted to perform adult roles and a child is adapted to
perform child roles does not mean that an adult can tell a child how to
properly be a child any more or less than a child can tell the adult how
to be an adult. It would be different if the adult were,
developmentally, the sum of everything that had happened in a linear
fashion from childhood on, embodied in the "adult" person; but they are
not typcally. The adult denies, represseses, negates, pretends,
buys-in, sells out and otherwise limits their being to probably 1/10 of
their total developmental self--repressing all but a small part of who
they are in order to perform their adult role. Thus, they are hardly
ever in the position to *discuss* with the younger human what is
appropriate for the two of them... and are never in a position to
magically impart "knowledge" of how to be a whole person or forcefully
impose their own belief on a child in the name of "learning". In fact,
the child is much more knowledgable than the adult--having made fewer
mistakes and having maintained those portions of the mind that the adult
has destroyed in the adult self for the herd in the name of
socialization.

Where a person lacks the knowledge to make their own judgements,
sometimes they have to do as they're told, for their own sake. This is
clearly the case for children, and generally in learning situations.
But there's a difference between someone saying "do as I tell you until
you learn what you need to know", and their saying "all you'll ever need
to know is doing this is good and doing that is bad".
