That's true. But they do need to get a sense of danger associated with
roads, so that they always check for traffic before they step onto one.
The issue is not whether they realise that cars are dangerous. It's
whether they really appreciate *just* how fast and dangerous they are.
No amount of theory, TCS or otherwise, is going to wipe out my repeated
experience of seeing kids, absorbed in their play, chasing each other
around on the sidewalk, and then run straight out in front of a vehicle.
In fact, one time I was the driver, and I actually hit the kid.
Luckily, she was not seriously injured, but it shook me up. I'm sorry,
but this notion that 2 and 3 year-olds know what they're doing looks
like the fantasy of people who're not much older, to me.

When kids aren't taught by adults, they learn from experience, and
generally speaking, the latter is a hell of a lot more dangerous.
