I heard somewhere that Positivitism was a scientific meta-theory -- some
deal about trying to explain the nature of the scientific endeavor, to
justify the *type* of knowledge that science acquires, and how it does it.
I also heard that it was soundly trounced a few decades back, and no
serious philosophers pay any attention to it anymore. (a few old
scientists apparently hold it subconsciously, however)
