I disagree very seriously - religion is weak philosophy at its best. All
religions are man made contrivences to aleviate their fears of the unknown.
Religion is just a lie, or misconception compounded by lies and more
misconception until there is mountain of misunderstandings so high as to be
impossible to fully disassemble. Mystic experiences can almost always be
explained by common brain issues, as with UFOs. I watch television like the
rest of you, I read all the time and everything I can get my hands on and i
have yet to hear a convincing UFO story or Mystical story that could not be
explained some other, more plausable way. This is not to say that such
reports aren't believed by the people that see them, but to trust what you
see as "reality" is folly, the memes in our minds keep us from ever "seeing
what is really" out there (if there is anything out there). That we can
learn from religion about our past, sure, you can also learn about New York
city from a fiction novel. There is no difference. About the only "truths"
that can be found through religion, or its progeny, philosophy, is human
nature. Philosophy that fits reality well is called mathematics.
