Knowledge can be self negating.  Belief which is not 
based on first principals opens one up to the 
possibility that the resulting knowledge will 
"doubt" the starting belief.  Doubt thus negates 
belief in self (unless self is a prime cause).
Understanding reinstates belief in self through a 
social, or experiential (objective), process.  ALL 
first principals become "doubted" as the first 
principal of self is not a social priority (the 
truth of the individual is destroyed for the 
objective "truth" of the group).  Paradoxically, 
this reinstates the individual as a *secondary* 
phenomenon-- that of object, or tool, of the group 
ideal.
The combination of group truth and individual truth 
is a prime *objective* (cause)-- this may also be 
seen as a "spiritual" ideal (in a metaphorical or 
mythological sense... which has certain properties 
but are not "fiction"; rather, myth operates in a 
fictionalized manner*).  Anyway, the objective 
primacy of that which is "beautiful" to both the 
group and the individual is a (symbolic) rendition 
of certain "artistic" perspectives, or balances 
which show a foundational principal of the 
relationships between objects (on a symbolic level 
where objects might interact "intelligently" sans 
human intervention).
