My but you are very indiscriminate in your reading! <g>

Anytime I see or hear the name Velikovsky, my bullshit detector leaps into
the overload sector of the dial.

If you examine some of Venus's key characteristics, which we have measured
with certainty e.g., diameter 12,100 km, density 5.2 grams per cubic
centimeter, surface temperature 482 degrees Celsius, we realize that not in
a month of Sundays could it possibly have originated as a "dirty, fuzzy
snowball" or comet.

As we also have historical references to Venus (in the Vedas) dating back to
some 6,500BCE, so the dating would be suspect, even if it were possible for
Venus to have been a comet.

Finally, there had to be something in Venus' orbit about 4.5E9 years ago, or
neither the Earth nor Mars would be where they are today. If it was not
Venus, what was it and where did it go to?

I do not see how a "comet" narrowly missing the earth could have any effect
on the ice caps at all, despite their "weight". In this discussion, weight
is irrelevant. Mass is much more useful. A given volume of water is much
less massy than an equivalent volume of most igneous rocks. So if the
argument is that somehow the mass of the water caused the ice-caps to move,
why didn't the much massier rocks move because of it too?

As far as the great pyramid is concerned, we have an unbroken chain of myth
and archeology, from the late stone and early bronze age stone piles
designed to prevent animals from gaining access to the bodies, through the
early pyramid, then the stepped pyramid at Saqqara that Imhotep designed for
King Zoser through to the northern pyramid of Sneferu, through the Ghiza
pyramids, Menkaure, Khafre, and finally the great pyramid of Khufu.

It seems strange that people like to imply that the great pyramid needed
some leap in capability, concept or technology, when the record of
development leading up to it is "graven in stone". And there is no sign of
this technique being used elsewhere. So I think that your Mr. Noone's theory
has its throat cut by Ockham's Razor.

A body containing moisture in a sealed chamber soon releases the water into
the environment, and everything is soon covered in fungi, algae and moulds.
Even peoples breath contains enough moisture to increase the humidity in
closed chambers dramatically. The Egyptians knew that. And as their
preservation techniques relied on desiccation, they provided venting...
