I have to agree with you greatly here. I am aware of genetic differences and
brain development differences between all the races and sub-races. But many of
the differences that seem genetic are cultural. A good example of this is
processing of sound. In my quest for an understanding of psychoacoustics, I came
across an article that discussed sound processing. Basically, cultural Americans
or any race, process language in one part of the brain and noise in another part
of the brain. The difference is that We consider bird tweets, rain falling
etc... to be noise, and this information is processed by that part of the brain.
In the Far East however, much of what our brains think of as noise, their brains
deal with as language. I am sure the effects of this difference are complicated
and not fully understood. Never the less, I am sure the effects are far reaching
and most likely there are many more differences that are either genetic or
profoundly cultural.
As for racism, in this country it is a huge issue, mostly related to religion
(As I am unaware of any Athiest racists, either in person or in reading) I fully
agree that the differences between races should be studied and understood as
much as possible. Equality does not exist as function of human nature, we have
to make the moral decision of equality, regardless of differences. That is the
choice I make.
