I agree with Richard's statement, but only with emphasis on _so far_. Of
course it ignores the negative effects of religion as a source of community
cohesion.
Understanding comes with knowledge, eventually. Maybe we need more
knowledge. If we do agree with the above statement, perhaps we need to
discuss what tactics religions use to hold communities in peace and
prosperity. I suspect that a number of these tactics actually backfire and
cause strife and poverty.
