One could just as well argue that they possess the fittest memes
from a Darwinian standpoint; those that have survived the strongest,
most frequent and most varied challenges (provided the academic is
committed to winnowing deeply the haystacks from the broadest
fields in which s/he feels truth needles might be found, using those
already uncovered as compasses to divine the directions to further
discoveries (is rational romanticism a good meme?)
