which means that you've heard about the meme, and therefore "knew about
it". Or am I being facetious ? (is that how to spell facetious ?)

btw, how would some form of standard format for replying be ? I realise
this might reduce 'diversity' somewhat, but it would also make threads
easier to track....

Re : Dark ages, gaps in "expected progress" etc...
The book called "Guns, Germs and Steel (the fates of human societies)"
which does a pretty good job of explaining why the "western world" ended
up with most of the "stuff" (ie money and power) as well as explaining
how and why society and technology have advanced the way they have.
Its a bloody good read and makes the world make that bit more sense
(while making a lot of this recent discussion of the subject look fairly
unenlightened, sorry). Go ye forth and read it.
