If you're cornered in a dark alley by a gang trying to mug you, just being
willing to walk away doesn't mean jack shit.

I didn't say that a system of ethics necessarily follows from memetics or
neo-Darwinism. But that people in the free thought community (as Eric
calls it) have a certain type of meme-complex which includes a certain type
of ethics. You might say, Tim, that you're a counter-example of such a rule
but even your "disagreements" have a certain quality about them--a style
that's part of the meme-complex I'm trying to describe. You are making all
these 'a-priori' assumptions (assumptions made before any question or data
gets evaluated) that are part of this meme-complex. For instance, you use a
color by numbers method of looking to falsify my theory with
counter-examples.The fact that you see things in terms of "theories" and
"counter-examples" only goes to show that your mind is stuck in a system--a
system with its own religion--a religion with its own idiosyncratic forms
of behavior (like finding counterexamples)through which ethics get
expressed.
