Whenever I think of a land without walls, I think of Larry Nivens
"Ringworld" series, where the protagonist nearly goes crazy because on the
ring world, there is no horizon... one can easily put oneself into a trance
simply by staring further and further off into the distance. Like vision,
I suspect that our minds are incapable of operating without "walls". They
are what keep us sane.
