If I say it is materialistic to want possessions, 99% of everyone who
speaks english will know what I am talking about. (I.E. Madonna's
'Material Girl'.)

If you give your philosophically jargonized and elitist description of
materialism, 99% of everyone who speaks english will not know what you
are talking about.

Depends on who you want to communicate with, don't it?
