Very good questions. It may be observable that dogs and some other animals
participate in information transmission. It is yet to be shown what the
nature of the transmission is, or the bandwidth of it. I doubt that any
other animal has as large a bandwidth for transmission as we do. Our larger
bandwidth also allows for self-referential statements, which may be missing
from other species. The most important thing that is probably missing from
other species is the feedback loop in our brains, so that we can transmit
information from one part of our brain to another, asking questions and then
answering them. IMO, meme transmission is largely defined by the level of
consciousness, and vice versa.
