I believe it was sceintific American, -no wait- it was a special on
the brain i saw on PBS. I'll get the tape. Anyway, the idea was that
almost all of your neural connections are made by the age of 10. This
means that the things you learn at these ages get hard wired into the
brain. If you are told god exists over and over again as a child, you
will lose the ability to change your mind. It is hard wired and nearly
impossible to override. In the case of religion, most people are told
from day 1 that there is a god, Christ died for them, etc... Our
deriding of these peoples beliefs cause much internal conflict as their
rational mind does battle with the wiring. The rational mind will almost
always lose. Oh Well. This is why children seem to learn and retain much
better than us adults. Also the more and longer you keep forcing info
into the brain, the longer you can make neural networks. I was raised to
question all my beliefs and I still do. Of course, the questioning may
not be necessary and I am therefor simply fighting reality myself, but
my rational mind does not think so.
