Not in all situations, but generally yes (from the perspective of genes).

Humans seem to like to think in terms of dualities: emotions/logic,
male/female, good/evil, night/day, black/white, left-brain/right-brain,
real/imaginary, life/death, friend/enemy, human/alien, human/machine,
etc., etc.

I guess it is easier than acknowledging the grey areas.
