For this very reason I prefer to refer to the present as time 0, and
relate from there (yesterday, tomorrow, last week, next year, etc.).
It is as phenomenologically valid as choosing some quasi-historical
baseline (say, birth) and figuring from there (see John M.
McTaggart's A and B series, in his work "The Nature of Existence")
